Episode 083 In The Company Of Giants

"You Cannot Believe That View!" It has taken Scott and I over 12 days to get to this point but we've finally been able to gaze upon Everest with our own eyes. What a morning this has been!

It started out with leaving New Tingri and continuing to head south down the Friendship Highway. After an hour or so we stopped at the familiar blue road sign that I remembered so vividly from 2003. Basically, it says, "Everest that way."

The last time I saw that sign was in 2003 as Ben, Major and I drove up north along the Friendship Highway from Old Tingri.

After that we switchbacked up a long section of road leading up to the top of Pang La, a 17,000 foot pass where we were suddenly greeted with that incredible view. Four, count 'em, FOUR 8000 meter peaks laid out in front of us. The highest of them, of course, being Everest. Chomolungma!

How incredible to stare at that peak again for real. I've spent so much of the past 4 years watching video of the mountain that we shot back in 2003. I'd forgotten that Everest doesn't really just exist on a TV screen or over the podcast on the Internet.

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but seeing this view with your own eyes leaves you absolutely speechless.

Win a Rest of Everest embroidered t-shirt. On my Rest of Everest page in the United States iTunes podcast directory I am looking to get up to 175 reviews. As the contest continues I have 166 reviews. I've picked a number between 126 and 175 so all you have to do to get the shirt is write a short review and add your name to the end so I can identify the author.

If your review is the secret number, then I'll announce it on a future episode and you will win a shirt. The first contest winner is a reviewer named Steve Wolfe. He's got the shirt and was very surprised to win!

If you're not the winner but would still like a shirt, you can buy one by visiting my shirt page here.

Thanks, and good luck!
